Journey to the common good

Thanks to Ian Wrisley for the tip about a MUST ATTEND event in the very near future. The First Congregational Church in Colorado Springs is hosting an event with Walter Brueggemann.

From their website:

Walter Brueggemann to give the 2008 James W. White Lecture
Walter Brueggemann, author of “Mandate to Difference,” will discuss the “Journey to the Common Good” at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 2, 2008 at Colorado College’s Shove Memorial Chapel, 1010 N. Nevada Ave., located on the College Campus. The event is free and open to the public.
Walter Brueggemann is one of the most widely read, widely quoted, and most influential interpreters of the Old Testament in the Christian community. Brueggemann has spent his lifetime in Scripture study, its imaginative redescription of the world, its summons to a life of compassion and justice, and its lyrical offer of an alternative. His recent book, Mandate to Difference, is a study in fresh possibilities for the church and for those in our society who cannot any longer countenance the lethal policies and destructive practices of our society. He understands that the irascible holiness of God is a taproot of an alternative perception of society and church.

If anyone from the Cohort would like to go to the Friday night event I would be willing to drive. Drop me an email or leave a comment and we can work out details.

James

Tonight was a great night sharing in ecclesial dreamer Tony Jones' book reading/signing for his latest book, The New Christians.

It was a great turnout with representation from Ft. Collins, Boulder, Colorado Springs, and the Denver metro area. Tony did great and we were fortunate to have some special guests join in on the reading. Pictures can be found at the zoomr site or the flickr site.
